Born in Mirecourt, France, brothers Charles (b. 1878) and Victor (b. 1889) Quenoil learned violin-making from an early age, training under renowned master makers, including Victor Audinot, Charles Georges Brugere, and Albert Joseph Deblaye. Both brothers are known for their impeccable workmanship and copies of Italian instruments. Though they mostly worked at separate shops, Victor in Mirecourt and Charles in Paris, Victor joined his brother in Paris from 1907-1914, and this violin is a product of that partnership. Victor, who was a pupil of Deblaye, carefully chose his wood to have the best tonal properties and Charles used a supple varnish to masterfully merge high-quality acoustics with beautiful aesthetics. This violin has a mature tone with warmth and depth and produces a focused sound across all strings. It would be an ideal instrument for an advanced or professional player.
